Purpose,styles and conventions of music videos

What is the purpose of music videos? 

Music videos are videos that comprehend with music. For example a music video displaying a rock band on stage would not go well with a slow love song because the words would not match and the feeling off the song may not match the feeling the viewer gets from watching the video.

Music videos are made to make artists and bands look big and successful. Another reason music videos are created and used are to create an image of the song and to make the song have a bigger effect towards people because they can visually see the artists interpretation of the song and what it means to them. Music videos are therefore used to attract more attention towards the song.

They are also used to help the song stick in the audience’s mind by using images an everyday objects in the music video to remind people of the video and therefore the song. This adds more publicity and interest in the song. Different people and organizations tend to have the same agenda when producing music videos as everybody wants their music to be big and music videos help do this. This is because if the music video is very good and popular it could be voted best music video of the year which adds popularity towards the song,artist and video therefore generating more profit for the artist and record label.

There are many different styles of music videos that artists use along side there music. Some examples of these styles are

Styles of music videos

Bruno Mars – The Lazy Song 

Synopsis:

This music video shows the main character bruno mars singing and dancing in a bedroom with four people wearing monkey masks.

In my opinion the lazy song music video is an alternate video. This is because it shows a simple yet effective video which encourages fun and humour. This links to the song as both the video and song fit well together to compose a relaxed environment whilst watching and listening to the video.

Tinie Tempah – Til Im Gone Ft Wiz Khalifa 

Synopsis:

This music video shows both musicians Tinie Tempah and Wiz Khalifa singing and dancing whilst going on what seems like an adventure in a big city full of possibilitys.

In my opinion this music video is narrative. This is because in the video it shows adventure and tells a story of how the main character tinie tempah leaves his presumed girlfriend and wonders around a city in attempt to find what he is looking for which is unclear in the video.

Wiz Khalifa – Roll Up

Synopsis: This music video shows the main charactor Wiz Khalifa singing along to his song to which he is talking about a girl.

I think this music video is interprative. This is because he seems to be singing to a woman and in his video it shows how he acts around her and away from her. It also tells a story as at the start he is on his own, during the video his is singing to her and then at the end it shows them hugging which shows that his song and video was a success as he finally got with the woman.

Bruno Mars – Just the way you are parody 

Synopsis : This music video is a parody remake of the original

I think that this music video is parody. This is because it is mocking the original by placing an ugly character infront of the camera and changing the lyrics slightly to show a contradiction between both original and parody videos.
